DIIR is the architecture studio that was born in 2018 through the vision of four architects: David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, Íñigo Palazón and Ricardo Fernández. The young firm is committed to the dialogue between beauty and people's life experience, influencing their daily lives and the quality of their existence. It has been awarded by COAM as an emerging studio, and by AD as one of the young studios with the greatest projection.

Their work is based on four pillars:

Rigour in all their projects, reflecting their dedication and perseverance.

Sensitivity manifested through closeness to the client and active listening.

Timelessness of their designs, guided by transparency and honesty.

Resonance through their ability to generate greater impact on users with the available resources.

THE CLIENT: PRIVATE

This is a private commission from a private client for a housing renovation located in Madrid.

THE PROJECT

The main characteristics that define this project are the search for large, open-plan spaces, the commitment to the flexibility of the programme and the need to create a relaxed atmosphere with a refined style. Part of the project's strategy consists of clearly differentiating the day from the night areas, which leads DIIR to design an original organisational scheme. They optimise the space, moving the most private uses towards the interior of the block and bringing the meeting spaces closer to the street, until a clean and perfect square is achieved.

This clean canvas is the centre of the house, a flexible space that houses the two most characteristic elements of the home, the impressive stainless steel island and the large sofa. Both pieces give a structure to the space but, at the same time, maintain sufficient autonomy so that the rest of the room can be experienced spontaneously. Moreover, thanks to their monumentality, they act as roundabout pieces and propose a fluid circulation around them.

THE STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless steel is chosen to materialise the key piece of the design, the island. Around it, meeting and recreational space is created to receive large groups of friends. DIIR is committed to noble solutions treated from a proactive perspective. A reduced palette in order to give each material the protagonism it deserves.

Walls are covered with fine mortar while the ceiling is acoustically sprayed. The floor is covered with solid slats of Landes pine, a bold solution that dresses up the entire house. The eye-catching touches are provided by two characteristic materials: Indian green marble floods the bathrooms and adds expressiveness, while stainless steel is used to design unique pieces.
