MiM
Sober design based on simple geometries.
THE STUDIO: DIIR
DIIR is the architecture studio that was born in 2018 through the vision of four architects: David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, Íñigo Palazón and Ricardo Fernández. The young firm is committed to the dialogue between beauty and people's life experience, influencing their daily lives and the quality of their existence. It has been awarded by COAM (the Official Association of Architects of Madrid) as an emerging studio, and by AD (Architectural Digest España) as one of the young studios with the greatest projection.
Their work is based on four pillars:
RIGOUR in all their projects, reflecting their dedication and perseverance.
SENSITIVITY manifested through closeness to the client and active listening.
TIMELESSNESS of their designs, guided by transparency and honesty.
RESONANCE through their ability to generate greater impact on users with the available resources.
THE CLIENT: MiM + SCALPERS GROUP
MiM is a Spanish brand of women's footwear that emerged after Carlos' unsuccessful search for a gift for Sofía. Heels with an attractive design at a reasonable price is the idea behind the firm created by these two young Madrilenians in 2015. With a fundamentally online origin, in 2024 they established a small shop in Calle Velázquez.
THE PROJECT
The MiM shop project is a 120 m2 retail space in the heart of Madrid, specialising in women's footwear. Opened in April 2024, it stands out for its minimalist approach and its use of stainless steel as a central design element. Along with the challenge of representing the virtues of MiM, there is the singularity of the space in which the intervention takes place, which has a notable longitudinality. This apparently unfavourable aspect is maximised by the geometry. A curved wall guides the user towards the back of the space, at the same time as it hides the innards of the shop. On the other side, a longitudinal staircase runs from one end of the space to the other, designed for the display of the product and possibly as an amphitheatre to welcome visitors to a fashion show. A semicircle culminates the space, separating the fitting room area and closing the design with the pronounced geometry.
THE STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless steel dominates the space, materialising the great curve that guides the user inside. The surface finish of the material generates a distorted image of the surroundings, while a continuous and homogeneous flooring rises to form the grandstand, creating a perception of unity and neutrality that highlights the products on display. A sober design, based on simple geometries and a singular choice of materials where stainless steel is the main protagonist.
