LA MARUCA
La Maruca restaurant draws a nautical club in the heart of Madrid.
THE STUDIO: ZOOCO
Zooco is an architecture studio based in Madrid and Santander, founded in 2009 by Miguel Crespo Picot, Javier Guzmán Benito and Sixto Martín Martínez. They develop projects nationally and internationally, covering a wide spectrum within the design, from furniture design to large-scale building. Their architecture has been awarded with Design Vanguard 2019, NAN Construction 2019 + 2020, Frame Awards 2020 or the European 40 under 40 2020.
Their designs are based on solutions adapted to the client's needs, appropriate and valuable from both an artistic and functional point of view. They apply a timeless language, which endures despite the constant irruptions of trends and fashions. In this way they fulfill their main objective, to present design as a profitable added value that helps to achieve the commercial success of a business.
THE CLIENT: GRUPO CAÑADÍO
The alliance of two well-known Cantabrian restaurateurs, Paco Quirós and Carlos Crespo, resulted in Grupo Cañadío. They stand out for using good products and the work of the kitchen teams. Their business model is based on simplicity, quality and consistency, which rises above fashions.
THE PROJECT
The new La Maruca restaurant in López de Hoyos street, brings the sea close to Madrid by drawing a nautical club in the heart of the capital. Through a process of abstraction, the project generates exterior environments inside interiors, recreating nautical environments in which the sea is perceived but not seen.
The interior volumetry is formed by multiple curved and friendly facades that invite the visitor to walk through the premises.
The materiality reinforces the marine character. Nautical teak wood with black polymer-based joint used on the decks of the boat, micro terrazzo with minerals in earth colors, smooth white ceilings and stainless steel finishes that stand out among neutral tones.
THE STAINLESS STEEL
In the centre of the premises, like the engine room of a ship, the spectacular open kitchen is located. Reliable and unchanging stainless steel, is the absolute protagonist of the space. The choice of satin-finished AISI 316 makes the difference and reinforces the quality that distinguishes Grupo Cañadío.
